Just in case you were wondering if China fell off the map, I’m writing an update to assure you that it's still here.  Yes, it's been a while and many things have happened in recent weeks.

The most notable is a week-long vacation for me and my colleagues at our college.  We just finished a rigorous government evaluation, and as reward for our excellent performance we were given a week's vacation!  At first, I was set on traveling, but then I decided to stay here and get some work done.  I've scheduled some teacher observations (part of my duty as an educational coordinator), and I'll be able to get ahead in a few of my classes, especially British History.

A few weeks ago I decided to have professional pictures of me made.  I took one of my post-grad students with me, and we wandered from store to store assessing the cost.  I had no idea what would develop through all this, but as we continued to meet in the following weeks to take the pictures, pick out the pictures, etc., a wonderful friendship unfolded.  Last night, I was to meet with one of my students' students--she's tutoring a middle schooler in English.  I wasn't relishing that meeting and was feeling very selfish about my time when my student asked me to meet with the middle schooler.  After our meeting, that middle school student walked away marveling at the joy, laughter and fun he'd been a part of.
