Hi Everybody!
I hope this letter finds you well! I am doing great! I have been busy with our English Camp and having a blast getting to know the students. :)
I'll give you a quick recap of the highlights of the week…
· One of my students asked me why Americans don't eat dog meat. I told him it's because we don't like to eat our pets. He informed me that Chinese people have little dogs for pets and they don't eat those; they only eat big dogs. I told him that Americans have big dogs for pets so they don't like to eat those either. He asked if I had eaten any dog meat yet; I said, "Not that I know of". He advised me that dog meat was very good. I'm sure I'll probably end up trying it sometime during my stay here. I'll just try not to think of any y'all's pets when I'm eating it. :)
· On Wednesday night, we went out to eat with our students at a local restaurant. We went to a place that served rice noodles in a big pot of broth that you share with the person across from you. In our pot there was crab meat, fish, quail eggs, beef and tofu. It was very tasty, except that the noodles were super long and slippery so I had a bit of time trying to grab onto them and eat them. :) I am getting more proficient with the chopsticks though.
· At the dinner, a couple of the
boys were encouraged to get up in front of the group and sing. Chinese people do not seem to be so "image" conscious as us Americans. We care very much about what other people think of us and I think it hinders of us from doing many things. It is kind of refreshing to be around people who aren't so concerned about their image. Anyway, one of the boys sang John Denver's song, "Country Roads", in English and the other boy sang the entire version of "We Will Rock You". It was great!

Overall, it has been a great time. We have one more week of classes with these kids. I am hoping that we will continue to bond with them and that the time would be fruitful.
I am thankful to be here with you. I love you all and miss you all very much!
