Living, Sharing

While teaching is the first and most obvious function of an ETA team member, a teacher’s influence extends outside of the classroom in conversations with students about life, family, traditions, goals, and worldview.  Relationships built in the classroom are further strengthened by meaningful contact outside of it.  This often involves meeting students during office hours or joining them for shopping trips, meals, sports activities, and parties.

Two additional venues for teacher-student contact include:

ENGLISH CORNERS (ECs)--small weekly discussion groups
These are led by an ETA teacher and allow students to improve their spoken English in a relaxed setting.  Teachers and students have a great opportunity to share their views and experiences with each other.

     STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTERS (SACs)--skill-based workshops
These provide a platform for students to improve their English while learning practical skills in areas such as music, journalism, drama, technology, photography, cooking, and travel.
